The Heart of the Question
For Joe, the heart of the Shakespeare question is: where did the playwright’s knowledge come from?
Will from Stratford upon Avon abandoned his education after grammar school. While still in his teens, he had a shotgun marriage and two children - then he abandoned his family.
"Will Shakspur" then appears in London, and to the surprise of all history, turns out to be the most educated writer who ever lived.
This very problem has puzzled:
Sigmund Freud, Charles Dickens, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Thomas Hardy, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Samuel Colderidge, Walt Whitman, Mark Twain, Otto Von Bismark, Benjamin Disraeli, James Joyce, James Barrie, Charlie Chaplin, Orson Wells, Daphne Du Maurier, John Guilgud, John Galsworthy, Leslie Howard, Derek Jacobi, Malcolm X, Helen Keller, Henry James
Out of the William Shakespeare obsession group comes this clip of an actor performing the essay ”Is Shakespeare Dead” by fellow doubter Mark Twain:
