The darker side of the dainty cocktail food
For me the term "ritual" brings about mental images of people in robes sacrificing virgins on stone altars, which, given Seth's predilection for being devilish and stealing props, wouldn't be all that surprising.
What I think Seth is trying to say is, there is quite a bit to do when starting from scratch before you can enjoy a deviled egg at home. First you have to boil the eggs, shell them, and cut them in half lengthwise (which is harder to do than you'd think). Remove all the yolks and toss them into a bowl and start mashing them with a fork. Add in mayonnaise, and any other ingredients you'd like (I am a purist who would only go so far as to sprinkle on bacon bits when I'm done but I've seen people use mustard and vinegar) and then put it back in the egg. Sprinkle a little paprika on and you can finally enjoy the fruits of your labor.
