Halloween

Halloween rolls around once a year which seems hardly enough. There are few things in a childs life as important as candy. I was five or six the first time I became truly cognizant that Halloween was a day that all of my neighbors, including the old lady that yells at me for running across her lawn, were obligated to give me FREE candy. As we get older the candy is less of a draw. Halloween in your 20s and 30s becomes a day to live like a child, to play dress up and be a monster, ghost or slutty cop.

Jonathan Winters = A deviled egg

"If your ship doesn't come in, swim out to meet it!" - Jonathan Winters

A Family Affair

Jason seems to be affected by music to the point of religious transcendence. I guess I'm jealous. Perhaps I have NO taste in music. I don't mean that I have BAD taste, I'm just a visual creature and have a propensity to be moved by a painting rather than an orchestra. I do remain conscious however that music can have profound effects on people and to judge them on their taste can be extremely hurtful. Tread carefully and either appreciate their appreciation or buy them a pair of headphones.

Prop 8 Overturned

How amazing it is to hear sanity and justice and truth and kindness in relation to equality for gay people. My favourite part of the decision is the judge's well-constructed and utterly invincible argument that marriage is not something that is entered into as only a means to procreate! There is no testing of your child-bearing potential when a marriage licence is given out so how can it only be applicable to a man and a woman, and how can it not be prejudiced to not allow a same sex couple to enter into that union?

Inception

Three weeks and almost $200 million domestic ticket sales later, “Inception” is still reverberating in the minds of millions. I, for one, saw the midnight IMAX showing and then saw it again the next day (yeah I geeked out, I work here, what did you expect?). I’m not going to get into the nitty gritty of all the details of the movie or offer my own theories about certain images and characters. I just wanted to note the obsessive way we as a culture have received the movie.

Zoe Kravitz has the Face of a Dragon

We all have a costume that we tell tales of... the Halloween costume that inspired spontaneous applause from passers-by. Zoe has one that she loves so much she recycles it year after year. Whatever you do, don't call it a dinosaur. She will adamantly tell you, it's not a dinosaur, "it has a face." I'll admit that we may not know exactly what a dinosaur looked like with it's skin on, but Hollywood and the bones in museums have led me to believe that they do have faces.
