We all have stuff to do either for work or entertainment. That doesn't matter to Corporate America, however, because (understandably) they want you to pay for whatever you do. My obsession is getting people to stop paying money for things they need and / or love.

Thunderbird - Email Client and RSS / News Reader.
The Gimp - Gnu IMage Processng; Hey... It's Free Photoshop. ;) Not better, just free.

WEB SERVING:
Linux - Any flavor of the free operating system.
Apache - Web Server Software; The most popular in the world kicks the pants off of IIS
MySQL - Database Software; Been Free since forever. works on all platforms
PHP - Powerful Scripting Programming Language

WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT:
Drupal - PHP based open platform developed across the globe.
WordPress - PHP based open platform developed across the globe.
Joomla - PHP based open platform developed across the globe.

DVD RIPPING:
Handbrake - Works... works well.
