Montgomery Clift

Monty, Monty, Monty...what can I say? The most beautiful face on film - bar none - and such beauty encountered such tragic disfigurement. As an actor, Clift leapt over Brando, Dean, Olivier and all comers. His films first to last are still fascinating today...The Big Lift, The Search, The Heiress, A Place in the Sun, Red River and even the mess The Indiscretion of an American Wife. His later films following his accident also have some merit but he at times he appears frail and self conscious. This serves him well in Judgement at Nuremberg....find me a more stunning cameo in a film. He is WONDERFUL as Noah in the Young Lions, that too with Brando tho they share 1 minute of screen time. I could host a Montgomery Clift retrospective. I've read books on him, biographies about him. Biographies of people who were his friends. I could host a Montgomery Clift retrospective. I've read books on him, biographies about him. Biographies of people who were his friends. I've walked the block he lived on in New York and found the small plaque marking his town house. I've found all old Hollywood fan magazines covering the young star. He was posed as a man about town by the studios (wrong!). I am not a big fan of Elizabeth Taylor's acting, but love her because she was kind to Monty when the rest of Hollywood was ready to write him off. I also have the 1948 Life Magazine cover with the stunning Clift framed in my room. His own writing, cards, and notes are fascinating themselves. They show a witty, clever, creative and troubled person. Any other fans? Any other notes? Show Less <
