I've read Tale of Genji -- the first known "novel", and written by a woman -- probably 10 times. I'm even convinced I had a previous life in that culture (1000 AD Japan). I love that the culture is so steeped in the practice and appreciation of the arts -- haiku, calligraphy, painting, gardening, fashion, even designing scents (incense). I've read every other book I could find that is related, such as "world of the shining prince", "the Pillow book," Lady Murasaki's diary, etc.
