Hamilton (Hammy) Pig, and every piglet that followed

A friend gave me a runt pig to nurse back to health, he would have died had we not taken him. We had never raised a pig before, learned everything we could and fell in love with this pig and could not bare to part with him. Hammy has gone from a few ounces you could hold in one hand to 200 pounds in 6 months. He will reach 600 pounds when he is full grown. We give him toys, a tether ball, a bowling ball, squeaky stuffed animals and such so he doesn't get bored. For the first 6 weeks Hammy lived in the house in a play pen and we took him outside on warm days to root in the grass. Hammy also got bathed often and rubbed down with baby oil every day to keep his skin soft and moist, they get so dry and flaky. Once we moved him to the barn we used chicken wire to completely enclose the stall so nothing could get our little Hammy. Hammy also got bathed often and rubbed down with baby oil every day to keep his skin soft and moist, they get so dry and flaky. Once we moved him to the barn we used chicken wire to completely enclose the stall so nothing could get our little Hammy. Until he got too big to lift into the car we took him on walks in the woods with our other dogs. We went on a trip when Hammy was 3 months old and loaded him in the car with our 2 dogs and took him along with us. He was house trained so he stayed in the house with us. I was trying to adopt a toddler when we got Hammy. I loved that baby but the mother kept changing her mind and taking him back over and over, the entire adoption turned out to be a scam and the police got involved. I am an animal lover and Hammy was there at the right time, he was and is my baby! The following breeding season after we got Hammy my friend gave us 3 beat up, sickly runt piglets. One of them died on the drive back home and 2 others died later. We were out in the pasture at midnight one night burying a piglet because my son could not simply put it in the trash. I just love these pigs, they are so smart and soulful, much better pets then the 2 dozen or so goats we have her on the farm. We sold our 4 healthy piglets, 1 to 4H, 1 to FFA and 2 to a guy who is going to make them pets!! It is a relief to know they were not headed straight to slaughter. I just can not express how much I love this pig. Show Less <
