I love to collect comic books. They are on my mind these days constantly. I was really into it as a kid but grew up, moved away and went to college. While at college I didn't have any $$$ so I kinda stopped. Recently I have rekindled my obsession with collecting. As a kid I can remember spending hours in comic book stores searching for undiscovered treasures. I distinctly remember the old dusty smell of the comic book stores. The stores that had large collections of back issues seem to have an aroma that was distinct. Just smelling that atmosphere made me smile because it meant there were old comics just waiting for me to find them. It was usually really quiet too. I would start searching through comic racks, flipping through issues, and try to find those really rare comics. It was a real high for me. Seriously. Seriously. It was the perfect place to lose myself in my obsession. Another thing I loved about comic book stores is how they would display valued comics on the walls of the store. So close but just out of reach. I can remember my eyes locked on to those very rare items. The dialog in my head would sound something like, 'Oh my God! They have issue 94! It's just a $100 bucks. I could do that in about 3 weeks. YES!' Those were the dark days before you could order everything off the internet. It was and still is exciting to have a list of items you want and slowly hunt them down and get them. So now you have your stockpile of treasures, what do you do with them now? This is the serious part, storing and protecting your comics. You have to protect your ‘investments’. I call them investments but that’s really not accurate. They could be worth some $$$ … someday … but probably not much. It doesn’t matter. Just finding rare comics and buying them was a blast. And finally, the crescendo! This is the really satisfying part. You take the comics to your fortress of solitude and add them with your collection of treasures. Yesss! “Welcome to your new home. Now, what other comics do I need?” I envision my inner self crouched over my hoard of rare comics looking something like Mr. Burns from the Simpsons. The evil grin, the piercing eyes looking over my hands clasped together, while my finger tips are tapping each other and I say to myself, ‘Exxccceelent, yes.’ The cherry on top is going back to the comic book stores. When you see other copies of the issues you have scowered the earth for and low and behold there they are. This is the little moment you get to gloat. You see the comics, smile to yourself and say those two magical little words ... ‘GOT IT.’ Hope this gives some insight into how collecting comics makes me feel. Show Less <
