When I was an idealistic Freshman in college flirting with the idea of majoring in Psychology I thought of Jung as sort of the anti-Freud. Where Freud represented patriarchy at its worst, and perversion, and posturing, a sort of faux search for inner truths but in reality just an effort to label things and put them in neat little boxes...Jung represented a more real seach for inner truth, a desire for some sort of real understanding of himself, and his patients, and the world. His own brush with madness (his Red Book) and his seeming ability to compartmentalize it is facinating. He speaks to the things that resonate with me (dreams, and art, and literature, and the spirit of man).
