
I have a strong (almost to the point of being a fetish) interest in basses made by the company Alembic. The company was founded in 1969, and were the first to make custom made instruments out of exotic woods and active electronics. Based in Santa Rosa, CA. the company got it's start modifying Guild basses for the likes of Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead and Jack Casady of The Jefferson Airplane. Before long Alembic started designing their own instruments and which were very high end and high tech for the time. During their golden years Alembic's were used by many of the top bands of the day including Led Zeppelin, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, Emerson Lake and Palmer to name just a few. While I own an Alembic (a childhood dream come true) I don't play it very often because of it's weight.... I'm also not too fond of the tone, but something about the basses still fascinates me.
