Who didn't love Al Toon? C'mon Jet fans give it up for the best Jet WR during the funny uniforms era. Three time pro bowler. Remeber the combo of Toon and Walker? Wow. QB Kenny O Brien went off some days with these two. When he wasn't holding onto the ball counting ten Mississippi to himself before getting steamrolled by an opposing teams whole defensive line. Get rid of the ball Kenny! God, I still have nightmares about shouting at the TV screen while O' Brien remained oblivious to the on rushing defenders.

Toon was a first round pick for the Jets, and was taken with the tenth pick of the 1984 NFL Draft. He played his entire career with the Jets. Playing in his first year with the Jets, Toon quietly worked into the offensive scheme and settled for 662 yards with three scores. His numbers during the 1986 campaign nearly doubled as he hauled in 85 receptions for 1,176 yards with eight touchdowns, leading all Jets receivers in such categories, and third in the entire NFL.
As a result of his breakout sophomore season, Toon was named to his first of three consecutive Pro Bowls. Over the course of the next three seasons from 1986-1988, Toon recorded 246 catches (including a career-high and league-high 93 catches in 1988), 3,219 reception yards, and 18 touchdowns. In the last game of the 1988 season, Toon caught the game winning touchdown pass from Ken O’Brien to beat the New York Giants 27-21 and knock them out of playoff contention. In 1990 he recorded six touchdowns and followed that up with 74 receptions in 1991. However, it all came to an end against Denver in 1992. After an eight yard reception, Toon was nailed by Michael Brooks of the Broncos. It resulted in the ninth concussion of Toon's career, and brought an end to his career. On November 27, 1992, Toon announced his retirement at Weeb Ewbank Hall at the age of 29. Toon currently ranks third behind Don Maynard and Wayne Chrebet for the Jets all-time receptions leaders, while standing fourth in club receiving yards with 6,605.
