Callas vs. Travis - Round One

Callas vs. Travis - Round One

"First I lost my weight, then I lost my voice and then I lost Onassis."
— Maria Anna Sophie Cecilia Kalogeropoulos

By her own account, the 5' 8" Callas never weighed more than 200 lbs.

Good for her. Better for me.

I tower nearly a full two inches over La Divina — but can still make the very same claim: I have never weighed more than 200 lbs. Based on the latest BMI data — for a 5' 9.8" 45 year-old male — I have been more successful than Maria Callas at maintaining a svelte figure.

Score one for Travis. Zero for Callas.

So what if I've never had the pleasure of being repeatedly given 10" by a 5' 5" Greek Pirate Tycoon?

Nor, have I been forced to terminate a pregnancy (on more than one occasion) by that very same well-heeled and hung shipping magnate — only to have the one child (a boy) that tripod, son-of-Medusa allowed me to keep — not survive very long past birth.

Have I given up a legendary singing career to wait for my big fat Greek wedding — that would never happen — unless you happen to be the recently widowed, former First Lady of The United States?

After finally blowing out my magical, truncheon-of-a-voice during a final concert tour of Japan — I never chose to wait for death. Utterly alone. Sealed inside my Paris apartment. Until, at only 53 — I was finally and forever set free.

And, No. I haven't had my ashes flown to Greece and scattered in the Aegean Sea.

Yet.

But — if I ever (I cannot over-emphasize the concept of potentiality) find myself unable to say that thing about never weighing 200 lbs. — so help me Zeus! I will definitely start eating a low calorie diet of mostly salads and chicken.

To Be Continued...
