Scariest Scenarios

Scariest Scenarios

So, I used to watch shows like Flavor of Love, I Love New York, Survivor, Road Rules, etc., and I used to think of myself as an avid viewer and fan of Reality TV. Until I started watching Locked Up Abroad. The scariest, most intense, horrifyingly wonderful show on television. Sure, I loved looking at the train wrecks on Flavor Flav's list of potential mates, or the girl-fights and bro-fests on Road Rules and Real World, but then I remembered that 99 percent of the dialogue and action on those shows are written or played up for television. Even shows like Man V. Wild, which seem like Bear Grylls is alone in a frozen tundra or deep in the heart of a rainforest, have lighting and sound guys behind these cameras and people very close and very out of sight to save him if he gets in any sort of trouble. Locked Up Abroad is different. Real stories of real people in REAL big trouble. Some of them knowingly take part in drug deals or other illegal activities in other countries, and yes, I still feel horrible for the way the prisons (if you can call some of them that) are run, but I feel worst for the innocent people, who unknowingly have drugs put in their bag, and are stopped at the airport and forced to sign documents under threat of punishment. My favorite/the scariest episode is the young Irish woman who goes to visit her "friend" in Ecuador to help him with his Visa, and ends up with two bags of cocaine glued into a pouch inside her bag. She spent 5 years in a dark, cold, dank prison for having the heart to help out a friend. It really makes me stop and think about all of the minor problems that I have in my life, and makes me really thankful for the freedoms that I do have. The men and women who are on this show have been to hell and back, and it makes for depressing yet somehow hopeful television. I'm officially obsessed with this show.
