Laurel Canyon and the LA music scene of the 60s and 70s

Nostalgia

In 1967, my clothing designer mom, Anita, and her business partner, Judy, owned a successful clothing store on Sunset Boulevard. It was called the Pleasure Dome. I was just a baby, but I’ve heard the stories, which have made me perpetually nostalgic for that era, the late 60s, early 70s. The place was a popular hangout. Janis Joplin shopped there regularly and became a friend. Jimi Hendrix dropped by, often with a blonde on each arm. The Steve Miller Band, or some such dudes, smoked joints in the back. Clint Eastwood got his zipper fixed (he took his jeans off and didn’t have any underwear on). Jack Nicholson made chicks try on clothes. Etcetera. I’m not sure if any of these people were part of the Laurel Canyon scene, but I love all the L.A. stories and music from that time.
