Tony Award-winning actor and LGBT advocate Alan Cumming hosted Live Out Loud's Ninth Annual Young Trailblazers Benefit Gala on Monday, April 26th. More than 500 community leaders attended the event, which will took place at the Chelsea Art Museum. The annual event culminated with the awarding of $2500 scholarships to four high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills. The recipients this year are Eric Multer, Brandyn Brunelle, Chelsea Schade, and John Dargan.
Hailed as "a testament to brave LGBT youth" by Time Out New York Magazine, Live Out Loud is a non-profit dedicated to connecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth with role models and leaders in the LGBT community.
A longtime supporter of Live Out Loud, Cumming appeared in a PSA produced by Showtime announcing the launch of Live Out Loud's Homecoming Project, a program which brings LGBT leaders back to their high schools to talk to today's students. Cumming is currently starring as Eli Gold in CBS's "The Good Wife."
John Dargan is a senior at the Brooklyn Community Arts and Media High School where he has produced films like "Day of Silence" and "Habla Sexual" which give further education to teens on social justice issues in the gay community. In addition, John launched The Diversity Project which organized a group of faculty and students to implement LGBT awareness activities in advisory classes and faculty meetings. He is currently working on two more films, one in regards to LGBT history and a documentary on the impact of gay rights activists. He plans to attend Connecticut College and make a stronger impact in the world of broadcast and film.
