uh oh....
isn't that a beautiful habanero? :)
but it's not habaneros i'm writing about, i just thought that one was particularly lovely. i'm here to complain about the common jalapeno. you know, the ubiquitous fiery green chile we all know and love. my affair with jalapenos goes back to my childhood and my mama's super awesome super hot salsa. her version involved roasting the jalapenos and tomatoes on the comal (cast iron griddle) making the whole house smell like heaven. she would then peel the hot chiles under running water, peel the tomatoes, add some onion, cilantro, maybe a bit of lemon, sometimes garlic, and some water, and somehow end up with this magical potion that made every food you put it on FANTASTICLY SCRUMPTUOUS! oh my. :) there is no store bought salsa that comes close to that. :(
so yesterday i made one of my favorite made up things that i make just for me, cause the douga (being a white guy) isn't a huge fan of hot chiles. i accidentally invented this recipe and it's been a favorite of mine ever since because it's so easy, so hot, so tasty, and i can make just enough for me. Here it is:
a piece of chicken
2-3 jalapenos, sliced
some frozen corn
1-2oz of feta cheese
oddly, i call it chicken chile corn feta soup. :)
ok, so i made some yesterday, yum yum yum! but today i woke up with a distressed tummy....distressed digestive system....you know...
yeah, i know, if it doesn't burn on the way out, it wasn't hot enough, right? but i used to be able to handle it better. am i going to have to give up my beloved chile vice? please, no, how can i go on? confined to a life of dull, bland, food? i don't think i could take it. i am a very oral person, what goes in my mouth is important to me! :(
or i suppose, i could just continue to suffer. just do it close to a bathroom or something.
choices, eh?
:)
