Auditions for Television and film
Ever since my manager found me at an acting competition I have been going to auditions in Los Angeles for film and television roles.
One of the things I've come to expect when going into a role is that while there is a general way things are usually done each casting director likes to do things a little differently. Some play perfectly to my strengths, others more to my weaknesses.
I've found that while I do very well when presented with a casting director who reads the other role in a more realistic way...even if they don't intone a lot or if their speed is a bit off... then I can respond in a more realistic way and my performance is the better for it.
Some casting directors don't do that, though. They read far too slowly...or more commonly, far too quickly...and they don't seem in the least interested in what they are reading. This makes it difficult to respond in a realistic fashion because you feel like you're acting with a robot on fast forward.
I really struggle with this second sort of audition and I was wondering if anyone had any tips for dealing with it. Any suggestions?
